Finchingfield is often called the most beautiful village in England, a "picture-postcard" village and one of the most photographed, with a duck pond and village green surrounded by Georgian and medieval cottages, a windmill, three public houses and a 15th century Guildhall. Great Bardfield is a large village south-west of Finchingfield containg a great variety of attracting houses. It was the home of many important twentieth-century English artists who hosted a series of important 'open house' exhibitions in the village during the 1950s. Saffron Walden is a picturesque, medieval town, in north west Essex. It has a rich heritage of old buildings reflecting its wealth as a rural market town. A market has been held here since 1141, and market days are now Tuesdays and Saturdays.
